THINK
DIFFERENT
Maria Callas
Maria
appears one morning on the building across the street. From a big banner
she is looking strait at my window. What a coincidence; for long weeks
before my work has been inspired by the magic of her voice. "THINK
DIFFERENT": this is her message. I go to the window at sunrise, at
sunset. Many times every day. It is snowing, it is raining, the clouds
are beautiful today ... Maria becomes so important in my life, a source
of inspiration. I take hundreds of photographs from my window, from ninth
avenue with long, medium, short lenses. How long will she be looking at
me? Let's take one more photograph. I make drawings, I paint. Her message
again and again is "THINK DIFFERENT." Months go by. One day
Maria is gone. I feel strange, more than lonely. I put up a sign on my
window. "Maria, we miss you. We love you." The sign is still
at the window.
